The Must-Read Book Club


Mindy Bacharach: I read it a few years ago when my book club suggested it and I continue to recommend it. I’m constantly reading up on Yoga philosophy, anatomy, practice, skills. It’s nice to read for the joy of it, not only for transformation and advanced learning. It turns out this book has so much wisdom.

I remember it book lingering in my thoughts for days, the characters and scenes echoing in my head. To me, a good book is one that is hard to recover from. It takes a few days to move on to a new book. When the morsel is that good – I have to wait until my book-palate is clear. This was one of those books.

YCNYC: Favorite quote?​

MB: "One of my favorite book characters, Gosh, teaches his sons how to live. I don’t remember the exact quote – but this is what I jotted down years ago - The 3 L’s of Life: Love, Learn, Legacy. To me, these 3 words relate to the principles of Icca Shakti – Power of desire or will “Love”, Jnana Shatki – Power of the mind “Learn”, and Kriya Shakti - Power of manifestation “Legacy”.

YCNYC: What one person would you recommend this book to

MB: I would recommend this to the next person who asks me for good book to read. And to the person after that…..

YCNYC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?

MB: There is a very powerful, courageous, loving woman in this book, Hema. In one memorable scene, she is on a plane that nearly crashes, needlessly. After landing, she grabs the pilot by his…..Well, you’ll see when you read it.
