The Must-Read Book Club

Kelly Childress: I've been hearing a lot about this book recently, and saw an interview with Gillian Anderson that sounded fascinating. It's personal and inspiring.

YCNYC: Favorite quote?

KC: "We must not wish for the disappearance of our troubles but for the grace to transform them." Simone Weil, French philosopher and political activist

YCNYC: What one person would you recommend this book to?

KC: A woman who is looking for inspiration, a new way of looking at life to better herself. And know that she's not alone, we're all in this together.

YCNC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?

KC: "It doesn't matter how strong your opinions are. If you don't use your power for positive change, you are, indeed part of the problem." Coretta Scott King

This resonates with me, especially these days, so many people have opinions on politics and what's going on in the world. But if you just sit in your home contemplating, it doesn't help anyone or anything.

There is no more neutrality in the world. You have to be part of the solution, or you're going to be part of the problem. Without taking action nothing will be done. However, taking action can be hard and difficult. There can be much inner resistance so you end up just reading or posting on social media. And feeling like you are moving forward. But getting little or no practical results in real life.

So, to really get where you want to go and to really understand yourself and your world you need to practice. Books will bring you knowledge. You have to take action and translate that knowledge into results and understanding.
