The Must-Read Book Club

Mika Oakes: I discovered this through a recommendation from a friend.

YCNYC: Favorite quote?

MO: "The sense of being trapped is an illusion. We are not controlled by circumstances, our past, the expectations of others, or our unhealthy expectations of ourselves. We can choose what feels right for us without guilt. We have options. Peace and serenity may be uncomfortable. At one time, fear may have been appropriate and useful. We have relied on fear to protect ourselves, much the way soldiers in a war rely on fear to help them survive."

YCNYC: What one person would you recommend this book to?

MO: Any one person who is experiencing a sense of chaos in their world, that leaves them feeling lost. The Language of Letting Go is a wonderful read for those that need gentle reminders and/or tools of how to soften after hardening, how to let of control when no control can be had, and a great reminder of coming back to self care and love.

YCNC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?

MO: There's a whole bit on fear that resonates a lot with me. When I originally read this book, I was going through a challenging time of life transition, and literally letting go of things that were no longer serving me. As I read through the fear chapter, I could relate to every single sentence and underlined paragraphs that I kept referring back to. But also, this is the kind of book where every page has something to offer. Some of the principles feel simple or obvious, but they are good reminders whenever / wherever you are in life.
