Poet's Corner: Samskaras

She sits in the water

waiting for them to

swim into her bucket

It has been an hour.

She stares as if the sheer

energy of her gaze

will lift them out of the water

and into her grasp—

thousands of fishy thoughts

and aquatic wonders.

The mind is the force

I watch carefully

then slowly wade into the water

kneel down and whisper to my daughter:

the thoughts,

yes

will leave by the thousands

and yes, a few will stay

be kind to those who stay.
