Locavore Post For Toddlers
While visiting my nephews one rainy weekend in Boston, I helped create frozen dinosaur eggs based on Pinterest posts by Trendhunter.com and Familyfreshmeals.com. Liam, four, and Finn, two, were enthusiastic assistants, thoroughly washing their hands and donning mini aprons. This project requires 15 minutes for dipping, 12 hours for freezing, and 15 minutes for arranging a scene of choice. It’s also a great way to find out what kids learn from TV and school. While we dipped the fruits into yogurt, Liam told me all about brontosauruses.
Ingredients And Utensils:
Two cups of yogurt in any flavor
Containers of raspberries, blueberries, cut strawberries, or any fruit of choice
Five shallow bowls for dipping
Toothpicks or wooden kebab skewers for dipping
Spoons to coat the berries
Here’s how we did it:
Wash blueberries, raspberries, or other bite-sized fruits.
Dry the berries with paper towels
Set out several shallow bowls filled with yogurt onto a table for easy reaching.
Show the kids how to stab the berries and dip them into yogurt. Use spoons to fully coat the berries in yogurt.
Help the kids remove the berries from the skewers and onto wax paper.
Freeze the berries overnight.
Ask the kids to find their favorite figures and scenery pieces from their toys. Cover a platter in tissue paper to make a landscape with hills and valleys. Allow the kids to place the dinosaur eggs and dinos onto the scene.
