Francesca Cervero: When I saw this bookI picked it up because the cover stood out to me. I had no idea what a gem I accidentally picked up!I read it 3 times in 2014!
YCNYC: Favorite quote?
FC: There is no way I could pick my favorite line, but I just opened the book to a random page and this line jumped out at me, "It's going to be difficult, but that's no surprise. The story of human intimacy is one of constantly allowing ourselves to see those we love most deeply in a new, more fractured light. Look hard. Risk that."
YCNYC:What one person would you recommend this book to?
FC: Anyone who is a yoga teacher or a spiritual seeker or a human hoping to be helpful in any way should have a dog eared copy of this on their nightstand.
YCNYC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?
FC: The book is a collection of advice columns from the once anonymous Dear Sugar (later revealed to be the beloved author Cheryl Strayed). It is the kind of book that you can read over and over again, especially when life is feeling extra hard and I usually make it required reading in my yoga teacher training.
My two favorite stories are "How You Get Unstuck" and "The Ghost Ships That Didn't Carry Us". Strayed is a master at articulating what I know to be most true about the universe; you get to have the life you want if you have the awareness, the resources and the guts do the inner work required of you.
