The Must-Read Book Club

Katie Fraumann: I discovered this when a yoga teacher read a passage from it during class one day. I went straight to the book store and read it that night. It's a book I either have in my bag or next to my bed. I can read a chapter or even a few sentences and feel inspired.

YCNYC: Favorite quote?

KF: "The truth you believe to and cling to makes you unavailable to hear anything new."

I feel that this is very relevant in our society today.

YCNYC: What one person would you recommend this book to?

KF: I would recommend this book to all my students and anyone looking for a wonderful translation of eastern ideas into western life.

YCNYC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?

KF: She discusses how life is not meant to be easy. The challenges and hardships is what life is all about. She says, "the journey of awakening is continuously coming up against challenges and learning how to soften and open. The law of karma is that we sow the seeds, and reap the fruit." I find these words especially relevant living in a city like New York City. Being one of the most populous and competitive cities in the world, it's a struggle every day to find peace and stillness. Challenges are everywhere and nothing ever comes easy.
