Much has been in the news lately about how yoga should be considered a religious pursuit and thereby unsuitable for teaching in public institutions. A school system in Georgia just outlawed the ritual greeting of Namaste by their children, a candidate in a Virginia electoral race called yoga "satanic", and they are still arguing a case in California where parents in Encinitas want to outlaw the practice of yoga in public schools.

To understand these issues and the fears behind the headlines YogaCity NYC will present a Deeper Learning panel discussion, Yoga and Faith, with Swami Asokananda, President of New York's Integral Yoga Institute; Marcela Clavijo, a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and ordained Buddhist Nun; Cantor Shayna De Lowe, of Congregation Rodeph Sholom; Hari Kaur Khalsa, master Kundalini Yoga teacher and disciple of Yogi Bhajan; and Pastor NaRon David Tillman of the St. Phillips Christian Church in Brooklyn.

After a formal discussion, questions from the audience are encouraged.

The program is FREE and open to all, but seating is limited and advance registration is suggested. Click here to register. today.

The Deeper Learning Series is sponsored by YogaCity NYC. They are intended to open up serious dialogue between diverse schools of yoga in New York City, foster growth, greater understanding and community. Members of the audience should be prepared with their own questions.
