The Must-Read Book Club

Ashley Howard: A yogi friend saw the author interviewed on an episode of Oprah's Super Soul Sunday and suggested we read it together. When I went to the bookstore to buy it, I pulled it off the shelf and turned to the back cover, which read: "Who are you really?" I remember thinking: "I'm not really sure, Michael." Little did I know, I was about to discover quite a lot about myself in 179 pages.

YCNYC: Favorite quote?

AH: "The great mystery begins once you take that seat deep within."

YCNYC: What one person would you recommend this book to?

AH: Anyone going through transition (ie. career, relationship, moving) or who struggles with truthfully answering the question: Who are you really?

YCNYC: What moment or part resonates with you the most?

AH: "Chapter 4: The Lucid Self." When am I walking around NYC or teaching a class in a dream-like state and when am I fully present and aware of my surroundings? "When you contemplate the nature of Self, you are meditating. That is why meditation is the highest state. It is the return to the root of your being, the simple awareness of being aware."
