Strengthening Your Foundation / Mula Bandha with Liz Buehler Walker. Abdominal strength is more than just crunches, and connecting to the strength of your legs can bring a potent power to your core. In this workshop, Liz will teach specific abdominal exercises that enhance the relationship between your legs and your abs. Then she will lead you through Yoga sequences that you do in every class so you can feel and refine your newfound core strength as you do things like step to lunges, glide out to plank and jump forward. She’ll also review crow pose and other arm balances so you can understand why they are all about leg and core strength, not about arm strength. And throughout all of this serious leg and ab work Liz will make sure you maintain your sense of humor and even have some fun.

Being a highly bendy person definitely doesn’t simplify the yoga practice.    If anything, it makes things more complicated. Sangha House will offer a unique 2 hr workshop to help the very flexible, led by Sophie Herbert. Contrary to common belief, the flexible are at a greater risk of injury in yoga.    An increased range of motion can lead to confusion about just how far to go in postures, resulting in subsequent misalignment and/or compression of the joints.    Likewise, naturally flexible people often have less dense musculature, meaning reduced protection for the joints and an increased susceptibility to tearing.    The highly flexible are also at a greater risk of being “pushed” in the practice. Sophie will provide the hyper-mobile with indispensable tools for a safe and powerful practice.    Her approach has been devised through years of cross-disciplinary study, trial, and occasional lesson-bearing error.

Malas, or prayer beads, are ancient tools used in a meditation called Mantra Meditation. A mantra is a sound/word/phrase that is used to steady the mind on a single point. The Mala is moved between the fingers of the right hand and used to count the Mantra repetitions (108 times, 1 Mantra per bead). This helps keep your mind focused. In this workshop with Jenny Jared, we will briefly review the history of Mala and its mystic background. We’ll do some gentle Asana to prepare for meditation, and do three sessions of increasing length with Asana and instruction in between. Mantra meditation is a very powerful way to deepen your yoga practice, Savasana, or to begin a meditation practice if you find it challenging.

Cost: $50, includes Mala beads

The purpose of love practices is to awaken our innate ability to love and be loved on a much more profound level. It helps us to work with our own issues around loving and being loved within a safe and simple practice.
The love meditation practice has several pieces that include:
1) Identifying a source of unconditional love
2) Practicing accepting and resting in that source of love
3) Sharing that love with others in our lives
This is a great practice to do within the context of a relationship, romantic or platonic. The practice is based on visualization and reflection working with sources of love already present in our lives.  Led by Lama Rod Owens.

Using familiar asana, we will continue to explore the landscape of each chakra, and discover how physical yoga practice can affirm your goodness, fortify your strength and resolve, and help you overcome energetic imbalances within these centers. After the asana practices we will chant the Bija Mantras with focused awareness, and utilize Sushumna Purification Breath to steady the mind, distribute energy throughout the body, and lead to a state of outer stillness and inner silence.  This workshop is appropriate for all levels of practitioners.

Satsang with Sri Dharma Mittra.  With Special Devotional Kirtan w/ Adam Frei & Eric Hubel. Satsang is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as a "gathering in the company with the wise." It is the traditional method of supporting the spiritualization of the student, sadhaka, or disciple with the teacher or Guru. There is both a non-verbal and verbal transmission to the aspirant from the teacher. It is also a means to honor the teacher for all the work they have done for the student in imparting the teachings and understanding of universal truth to them. Satsang will now be made available to all students weekly. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity to sit in the company of Sri Dharma Mittra and special guests. Held the first Thursday of every month.

& singing anywhere & everywhere they'll have him :) A Bhajan is any type of Indian devotional song. It has no fixed form: it may be as simple as a mantra or kirtan or as sophisticated as the dhrupad or kriti with music based on classical ragas and talas. It is normally lyrical, expressing love for the Divine. The name, a cognate of bhakti, meaning religious devotion, suggests its importance to the bhakti movement.

Yin Restorative Yoga is taught by Masako Miyakawa.  The calming, grounding, and quieting practice of YIN Yoga will open your hips, spine, and shoulder joints gently yet very deeply. Poses are held to affect the tight, contracting tissues of ligaments, tendons, and fascia. Since all the poses are done on the floor, often-neglected parts of our body are safely toned. This practice compliments more YANG activity such as vinyasa yoga, running, swimming and weight lifting. You will feel tightness melt away and your energy begin to flow. Each class ends with deep relaxation supported by props so that you restore your body’s natural ability to relax and rejuvenate.
Special 5-week Series!

Cost: $90 for all 5 classes of Yin Restorative (Make-ups can be done in other classes); Single Class $20
